Taking better pictures lesson 1
Today I am going to talk about how to improve your pictures of people. You always hear that you should never place your subject in the middle of your picture. That is somewhat confusing as you might ask yourself: "how can my subject be in the middle when they cover most of the image?" Well, the rule of thumb in taking pictures of people is to focus on their eyes. So, don't put their eyes right in the middle of the photo. If you can set your focus points on your camera make sure you don't use the one right smack in the middle.
Now for the information I want to pass along about this picture above and the one below. If you have studied art you know that you should be able travel a path through the image with your eyes. See how I placed my beautiful niece off to the side on the left where it looks like she has room to walk in the direction she is going? It is especially noticeable if you are taking a side portrait close up of someone-give them some where to look in the direction they are looking.
See what a difference from the photo below? She looks like she is stopped because there is no place to go. For some reason it makes us a little bit uncomfortable subconsciously, unlike the above photo which speaks to her strolling through the park with her camera ready to take pictures of the flowers! Come back tomorrow for another hint for better people pictures!
